The race to the finish line at the half way point of
the 2006 federal election campaign had become
a more apparent challenge for Paul Martin and
his Liberals. Already burdened by damning
testimony against Liberal organizers during the
Gomery inquiry and withering support in the
polls because it, Martin was just beginning to
carry the weight of another scandal brewing with
an RCMP investigation into a possible leak of
income trust information from the Finance
department.
