The Liberal government is tightening the leash on eHealth chairman Dr. Alan Hudson in the wake of the spending scandal that cost the president of the electronic health agency her job.
Following eHealth CEO and president Sarah Kramer's departure Sunday, questions are swirling about Hudson, the well-connected neurosurgeon who has led Premier Dalton McGuinty's efforts to reduce wait times in health care.
Health Minister David Caplan, who has asked Auditor General Jim McCarter to probe eHealth and has also imposed tougher procurement and expense guidelines on the agency, yesterday said Hudson is playing ball.
"He said he wants to cooperate with both the third-party review (by PricewaterhouseCoopers) and with the AG to give them some ... insight into what happened (and) why they made whatever decisions they made," said Caplan.
"So Hudson has agreed to be ... that link and help with that transition" involved in finding a CEO to replace Kramer, the minister said.
Caplan said he met with the doctor after revelations about spending abuses at eHealth surfaced.
"I was ... seeking the assurances about who signed off on what, what happened – it wasn't just a question of the letter of the law, but the spirit of it. Should you do these things? and the judgment behind that." the minister said. Continued....
