Once again we are treated to the spectacle of a politician being hoisted by his own petard.
This time the action takes place south of the border in the State of New York where Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught with his pants down.
The governor came into office as a no-nonsense crime fighter specializing in bringing down high and mighty white collar criminals on Wall Street. It seems Spitzer had some dubious and expensive habits of his own, namely $5,000-a-night call girls.
At the same time, we are treated to yet another media feeding frenzy.
After weeks of covering the road to the White House, the assembled horde had what they really love - a juicy sex scandal.
So juicy in fact, our national broadcaster spent a significant part of the day parading it out as the top story of the day.
And parading indeed - CBC had live coverage of Spitzer's motorcade winding its way through the streets of New York - stuck, naturally enough, in traffic.
We understand the 24-hour news cycle is here to stay, but live coverage of an American politician who about 99 per cent of Canadians had never heard of until he got caught with his proverbial pants down, is a bit much. Source...
