Stagnant polling figures over the course of this provincial election indicate most Ontario voters have sleepwalked through this campaign.
Not that they are to be blamed. There has been little to energize an electorate growing weary of elections.
Interestingly, a similar scenario is playing itself out on the federal stage.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is toying with the idea of triggering the collapse of his minority government. He is staring down the opposition parties, essentially daring them to vote down his Oct. 16 throne speech or one of the confidence bills that will inevitably follow.
But Harper isn't riding high in the polls. His party is barely at the level of popular support it had when it formed the government early last year - hovering around 36 per cent.
Liberal support, despite serious questions about the leadership of Stephane Dion, has likewise remained steady at its support at the last federal election, around 30 per cent.
The steady polling at both levels of government are clear indications of an electorate that is tired. Source.
