With a contingent of entertainment and political reporters in tow, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will kick off a three-day visit to Canada today to promote the state's wines and sign agreements on climate change and stem cell research.

Ontario's opposition leaders called McGuinty "the king of photo ops" and accused him of cashing in on Schwarzenegger's fame to help promote himself and the Liberal government in advance of a provincial election just four months away.

"They're into a whole series of what I call their deathbed repentances, where they're suddenly doing a lot of things they could have done any time over the last four years," said Conservative Leader John Tory yesterday.

NDP Leader Howard Hampton said the province should at least be willing to adopt California's strict regulations limiting emissions from cars and trucks.

"Despite the photo ops, despite the glitz and the gloss, the Ontario government is not going to go as far as the Republican administration under Schwarzenegger in California," Hampton remarked.

"This is another photo op by the McGuinty government to try to cover up their lack of substance on the whole climate-change issue." Source...
