A notorious east Hamilton bar with a history of violence was operating with an expired licence when a patron was shot nearby last week.
CD Sports Bar on Ottawa Street North was facing a show cause hearing this morning in front of Hamilton's licensing committee, which was set to decide if the bar's establishment licence should be revoked.
But the committee learned from city staff just before the start of the hearing that the bar's licence had expired April 9, almost three weeks before the most recent shooting that has been linked to the club.
At least three patrons of the bar have been shot -- one fatally -- in the past 20 months after leaving the club, and another two people have been stabbed.
The committee also learned that an application for the renewal of CD's establishment licence had only been received by the city on Monday. -- The city's licensing department has decided to not renew CD's licence.
When the committee learned that there was no licence left to revoke at the show cause hearing, committee members unanimously voted to support the staff recommendation to not proceed with the hearing. Source...
