Imperial Oil says the gas supply situation in Ontario remains tight, but there is hope on the horizon.
Spokesman Gordon Wong says the key Nanticoke refinery damaged by fire two weeks ago is expected to step up production by the end of the week.
Many gas stations across the province - mostly Esso stations, which are supplied by Imperial - have run out of fuel as prices hover around the $1-per-litre mark.
A handful of gas stations in Montreal also ran out of fuel, but Wong says that’s unrelated to Ontario’s situation and has largely been resolved.
Wong estimates the Nanticoke refinery won’t be fully operational until mid-March.
In the meantime, he says the gas shortage is being eased by the end of the CN Rail strike.
