Plans to stage an outdoor World Cup party at Ivorr Wynne stadium on Sunday have been scrapped.
Councillor Sam Merulla says any proceeds from the event would have gone to impoverished children. He says the first contact they made was with CTV which owns the Canadian rights to broadcast the game. However, they told him it was up to FIFA to grant permission. Merulla was also told, it's very unlikely they can logistically make the deadline to put everything together in time for Sunday. Meantime, the city remains ready for a celebration on Sunday. 60 extra police officers will be on duty. James street North will also be closed from Cannon to Barton. Barton east from Sherman to Birtch will also be closed. Source. More stuff to read on... my blog. For some reason, some visitors to this site don't realize that links to each cartoon for 2006 is archived in a scroll down box near the bottom of the homepage. Use my 1997-2005 archives page to find cartoons from previous years. You can sign my guestbook, but I need to approve your entry to prevent infestation of spammers.
