This time around, they all seem to want a piece of
us.
The three most powerful political leaders in the
country made no fewer than a dozen campaign
stops in area ridings during the federal election
campaign, signalling that this year, Canada's party
brass are hot for Hamilton.
Prime Minister Paul Martin has made six stops in
area ridings, doubling his visits from the 2004
summer federal campaign.
Conservative leader Stephen Harper has put in
four appearances in Hamilton, Burlington and
Oakville.
And in a bid to capture two of Hamilton's four
urban ridings, Jack Layton dropped the New
Democratic Party's economic platform at the
Hamilton Convention Centre.
There are 308 ridings to choose from across the
country, so a visit by one of Canada's three big
party leaders in the last crucial days of the election
campaign is significant, say political observers.
But will they love us in the morning?
