Owner Bob Young says the removal of the GM's title from Ron Lancaster's job description isn't an indication the CFL legend is paying the price for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' lacklustre start.
The Ticats (0-6), the CFL's only winless team, reshuffled their front office Wednesday with Lancaster, in his second season as the club's general manager, now being the senior director of football operations. His primary duty will be player evaluation.
Rob Katz, 35, a special assistant to the business operation last season, was promoted to chief operating officer of football and business operations and also takes over as interim GM.
The changes give the appearance Lancaster is being made the fall guy for Hamilton's woes, but Young said that's not the case.
"This isn't that big of news," Young said during a news conference at Ivor Wynne Stadium. "We're tweaking our management structure and, while I'm thrilled with the attention you guys are giving us, it's a little overblown.
"What we're trying to do is maximize the success of our football operations."
Young said that, while Katz has the GM's title, his major responsibilties will be dealing with player agents and finalizing contracts as well as improving the football operations database to help it better find and track potential players. Source.
