It's too soon to worry about whether Ontario's public health care system could face a court challenge similar to one in Quebec that has critics fearing the demise of medicare, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Friday.
Questions about whether the Ontario government would invoke the notwithstanding clause to shut down any such challenge are "premature and speculative," McGuinty said in Ottawa, where provincial Liberals were gathered for the party's annual meeting.
"I'll cross any of those bridges when I come to them."
McGuinty said people are more worried about lengthy wait times than they are about the threat posed by Thursday's Supreme Court decision to strike down a Quebec law banning the purchase of private health insurance for medically necessary health services.
