Paul Martin Goes to Libya
Prime Minister Paul Martin said he "put the cards on the table" about such issues as respecting human rights during two meetings Sunday with Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi in Tripoli.

Martin said he and Gadhafi, who met inside an ornate tent, also discussed business opportunities and peace in Africa and the Middle East.

Gadhafi was a study in contrasts - he wore a flowing brown robe over grey-white tailored trousers and calf-length black boots - as the two leaders met inside the tent on the grounds of a walled compound in the city's centre, while camels and goats grazed nearby.

Martin described the dictator as a man with a profound sense of history, "who understands that with the changing world, abuse of human rights cannot continue."

Gadhafi made an extreme about-face a year ago by renouncing support for terrorism and abandoning his program for weapons of mass destruction, a move lauded by Canada and other western nations. Source.
