A Hamilton police constable fired three shots and wounded a
pit bull yesterday after it tried to attack her in
a downtown parking lot.
The woman officer shot the dog after frightened witnesses called
911 to report two animals chasing a 10-year-old boy and
a man shortly after 5 p.m.
Superintendent Glyn Wide said one of the pit bulls lunged
at the constable, forcing her to take a step back
and fire two shots. She then stumbled on a curb,
got up and fired a third shot, wounding the animal
in the left front leg.
The dogs were taken away by Hamilton Animal Control.
Yellow taxi cab driver Abe Din couldn't believe his eyes
when he saw the dogs chasing the man and charging
after the boy, tugging at the bottom of his jacket.
Din had just arrived at his usual waiting spot near
the corner of Cannon Street East and West Avenue North
when he heard the child screaming.
He wasted no time helping, opening the rear door of
his cab and yelling for the boy and the man
to get in before calling 911.
"The boy was screaming and calling for help. As soon
as he got in, the dog stood by the car
barking and waiting for them to come out," Din said. Source.
