The long-awaited inquiry into the $250-million Adscam begins tomorrow with the star witness who blew the lid off years of mismanagement and questionable spending. Auditor General Sheila Fraser is the first in a long list of witnesses scheduled to appear at the hearings which begin in Ottawa.
While Prime Minister Paul Martin has said the inquiry will get to the bottom of what went wrong, some MPs are worried it's going to turn into a "circus."
"Now that we've funded Charles Guite's legal defence, it could take on the air of a circus trial," said NDP MP Pat Martin, referring to the man at the centre of the scandal.
"The whole commission could collapse under its own weight with procedural mischief and it has all the markings of a bloody circus.
