Canada's new Conservative party is hoping to convince hockey commentator Don Cherry to run as a candidate in the next election.
But Cherry, speaking on a Toronto all-sports radio station Thursday, said he didn't think he would be making the move to politics.
"Too late," he told The Fan 590, and then joked he'd have to ask his boss at CBC Sports first.
"I don't think I could take a pay cut either," he added. Reports suggest Cherry, 70, could be leaving his job at the CBC after this year's hockey season because his contract isn't being renewed.
Peter MacKay, deputy leader of the Conservative party, has tried to set up a meeting with Cherry. He passed a message to a mutual acquaintance. But MacKay isn't sure Cherry ever got the message. Source.
