David Christopherson, if elected mayor Nov. 10, would quickly call
a special meeting to settle the issue of whether or not council wants to finish the Red Hill Creek Expressway, an issue on which
he and Di Ianni are poles apart.
Christopherson believes the valley should be saved and improved to
become "another jewel" like Bayfront Park. But if a majority
of the new council says build the expressway, "then we
build it."
He said he knows he won't get the votes of
the most ardent expressway supporters, but has opinion poll results
indicating enough people are willing to vote for him as
the candidate best able to turn the city around.
"For an awful lot of people, it (the expressway) is
a big issue, but not everything. Other issues are too
important to cast their ballot on only one."
