You'd think negative election advertisements targeting party leaders -- so-called attack ads -- were a sign of the coming apocalypse. Commentators, including the media, express how shocked and appalled they are.
With all respect: Get over it. What the heck were we all expecting?
This is an election. The stakes are enormous and many, if not most, voters cast ballots according to whom they want for premier, not whom they want for their MPP. Parties and their policies revolve around their leaders and voters focus on leaders.
Negative ads are not new. They've been around longer than most voters. And elections have always been largely about what a candidate will do for you and what his/her opposite number will do to you.
