The popularity of an Ontario NDP mascot named Hydrozilla has
spawned a campy collector's-edition election poster that's so popular it's
already fetching up to $1,000.
NDP Leader Howard Hampton paid that amount for one of
the two posters already printed, outbidding a Queen's Park consultant
by $100 at a recent fundraiser.
Party officials now are awaiting delivery of 1,000 limited edition
posters, to be used to raise money for the party
at about $25 each.
But given the popularity of Hydrozilla, who travels Ontario as
the NDP's election campaign mascot, it wouldn't be unusual to
see bidding wars.
"Stay tuned," said NDP spokesperson Sheila White. "There are surprises
still to come in this campaign."
Hampton has gained wide credibility in the last year for
his campaign against privatization of public services, from electricity to
water to health.

Conservatives on what has turned into the NDP's biggest election
issue -- the deregulation of electricity. Source.
