Former Hamilton TV news anchor Jennifer Mossop will take on Tory cabinet minister Brad Clark in what many predict is a winnable Stoney Creek riding.
Mossop, 43, has never run for office. But she agreed to be the Liberal candidate against incumbent Brad Clark and the NDP's Lorrie McKibbon. She steps into a vacancy created abruptly last week when Liberal candidate Tony Magnini quit after he was charged with fraud.
Mossop, who will be nominated Friday, said Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty asked her in the spring to run, but she turned him down because of family commitments. She changed her mind when he called again Thursday.
Her four-month-old daughter had a lot to do with her decision. "I know that sounds pretty corny, but when you've got a little one, you worry about things a lot more," she said.
Stoney Creek is held by Clark, the Ontario Labour Minister, and recent polls suggest the Liberals could take the riding from the Tories.
