The plan to release Ontario's budget before 300 selected guests is arrogant and undemocratic, deputy Liberal leader Sandra Pupatello charged yesterday during a stop in London.
"It is arrogant on the part of the government to think they can get away with it," Pupatello said.
"To have some exclusive audience to their budget is ridiculous."
Pupatello said it is even questionable if the presentation by Finance Minister Janet Ecker will be a legal budget.
If rumours Premier Ernie Eves will call an election within days turn out to be true, Pupatello said the budget will be a propaganda document for the Conservatives.
Yesterday, Eves faced more criticism within his own party as a Conservative backbencher broke ranks to protest the government's unprecedented plan to present the budget in front of guests at an auto-parts facility rather than in the provincial legislature.
