(From an Andrew Dreschel column) Fred Eisenberger will obviously have to trim his sails to a different wind if Mayor Bob Wade decides to call it a day and he ends up facing New Democrat MPP David Christopherson as his main opponent.
Like Eisenberger, Christopherson is nobody's doormat. But the leadership question -- which is the right person to take the city where it needs to go -- will likely still be the dominant theme of the campaign, even if other name candidates join the field.
Bob Wade's barefaced dislike of confrontation has proven to be a major deficit when dealing with slippery councillors who need to be called on their game-playing antics or reminded of the city's strategic goals, if not in public then certainly in private.
Wade lacks the forceful personality to do that. Witness his recent passive declaration that he's only one of 16 councillors.
